Vegan Beijing-style Tofu
Crispy tofu with a spicy and tangy sauce! 🌢️πŸ₯’

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of firm tofu, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha
  • 1/4 cup peanuts
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions:

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut it into cubes and toss them in cornstarch.
  2. In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and add the tofu cubes. Cook until crispy and golden brown on all sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the sliced onion, bell peppers, garlic, and ginger. SautΓ© until the vegetables are tender.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, maple syrup, and sriracha.
  5. Pour the sauce into the pan with the vegetables and stir well. Add the tofu back into the pan and toss to coat.
  6. Garnish with peanuts and green onions.
